Amazon Linux 2027 Preview Security Advisory: ALAS2027-2026-280
Advisory Released Date: 2026-11-02
Advisory Updated Date: 2026-11-02
Severity: Important

Issue Overview:

Package updates are available for Amazon Linux 2027 that fix the following vulnerabilities:
CVE-2026-114605:
dnspython is a DNS toolkit for Python. Prior to 2.9.0, dns.name.from_wire_parser follows attacker-controlled DNS compression pointer chains without a hop limit. A malicious DNS wire-format message can force excessive pointer traversal during name decompression, causing high CPU use, application degradation, or denial of service in applications that process untrusted DNS messages. This issue is fixed in version 2.9.0.

Affected Packages:

python-dns

Issue Correction:
Run dnf update python-dns --releasever 2027.0.20261102 or dnf update --advisory ALAS2027-2026-280 --releasever 2027.0.20261102 to update your system.
